Indicators of Abnormality

Read the following and identify and explain the role indicators of abnormality in Jane’s adult choices at work and recreation.  Please use the attached Rubric and course textbook to complete the Analysis.

Also, you must cite sources according to APA format.  This is called parenthetical referencing, or in-text citation.  Here is an example of parenthetical referencing/in-text citation: “shared environment is…” (Sigelman & Rider, 2012, p. 25).  To not acknowledge one’s source is plagiarism, whether intentional or unintentional.  Plagiarism carries a penalty of a 0 or an F for assignment, and possibly an F for the course.

Jane, a thirty-eight-year-old woman, is a District Manager at a Fortune 500 Department Store.  Her district, which includes 9 stores, consistently sees profits.  This is attributed to her strategy of bi-monthly meetings with managers, studying the findings of focus groups, offering incentives (bonuses in addition to commissions), unannounced visits to district stores, her penchant for personally conducting transactions with customers (she has never lost a sale), and, giving new salespeople and supervisors encouragement.  She normally works 60-hour weeks, works through holidays, and never takes vacations.

She was sexually abused by an uncle between the ages of 10 and 14.  The abuse ended when she told her parents.  Her parents, devout Catholics, asked her forgiveness for their failure to protect her.  She did.  Business professionals, they demonstrated hard work and integrity.

Jane was popular in high school and college; peers, teachers and professors found her an avid listener, dynamic and empathetic.  After years of drinking alone, gambling, and frequenting private sex clubs, Jane is at a crossroad: she feels herself spiraling out of control but knows she can control it if she continues to work hard.  She simply must work hard and not allow herself time to think and remember.
